Only two days into the week and already the weekend is a distant memory. At least it was a lovely memory. Sewing all day Saturday but a birthday party at down at the beach on Sunday. Coco’s little friend from playgroup turned 4. Happy birthday Blossom! Continue reading “Weekend” »

I know my birthday was so last June, but I just had to share the present I received in the mail the other day, from my dear friend Peta who lives in Brisbane.
What you need to know about her is that she is a buzzy, bubbling, dynamo of a girl, with 2 children under 3. She is rarely ever still. In all our years of friendship (we celebrate our anniversary of 18 years this year) I have seen her do and achieve a great number of things but I must say I have never seen her sitting still, let alone sew. She’s very creative in many ways but I think she’d be the first one to admit she’s better at coming up with the ideas and then outsourcing the final product. Until recently when I started to notice she was talking about her ‘fabric stash’ and on my last visit I saw some handmade projects around the place that were all hers. From start to finish.
I’m so pleased she has found pleasure in crafty pursuits. I’m also pleased to be the recipient of these appliqued napkins that she rescued from an op shop and added her own touch to. So much sweetness and thoughtfulness in this gift. I can see all the effort that’s gone in to them, not to mention hear the faint echo of cursing that also may have snuck out intermittently. Thanks lady! You’re effing ace!
Best of all I now have proof that Peta actually can sit still, something I never thought possible.

For the last year and a half I have had the pleasure of working at Mac Pelican, a beautiful little shop in Hawthorn that supported local and interstate makers and was positively brimming with goodness. It was a delightful place to work, being surrounded by the work of clever people and lovely loyal customers but mostly because of my boss and great pal Amber. She was passionate about her little shop, loved it like a baby. That was until she had a baby. If I was her I would have crumbled totally under the pressure, but she was there for both the shop and Eddie for the longest time until, well Eddie won. And darn rightly so! Eddie, shop, Eddie, shop?? No contest. Being a mother is huge, especially the first. The first child knocks your socks off. Literally. I think whilst in labor, my socks did actually fly off…but that’s another story.
So after much contemplation Amber has decided to shut up shop. She made the perfect decision for her and therefore it’s the absolute right one.
I will miss the shop, working together with Amber over Christmas, rocking out to Janelle Monae and my favorite, when she used to bring Eddie in for visits. But the plus side (and it’s huge) I will be free to work more on mosey and she will (the most important thing) be able to spend the precious first year swooning over Eddie for he is one of the most swoonable baby’s I’ve ever met.
So it’s farewell Mac. I loved your four walls as my own. But not farewell to Amber. More like ‘hi there, wanna catch up for coffee since neither of us are at the shop hehe’ And thank you. Thank you for being the best boss ever. For letting me sew behind the counter. For letting me duck out and pick up Otto when I mucked up his after school care. For the coffees and treats. But mostly, (tears welling..) for being the kind of boss that has turned into a true friend xxx

If you’re a regular reader (and really, why wouldn’t you be) you might have noticed that the blog has been all crazy-town up in your face. Fingers crossed it is now fixed and a big thank you for being so patient with all the drama. Honestly it has been a technological nightmare. Posts appearing, disappearing then appearing. Not to mention behind the scenes, emails have been arriving in my inbox sporadically, or the same ones are downloaded twenty times whilst important ones have gone missing.
