Last week of the holidays and with this minor heatwave in Melbourne we are taking it very easy. Lots of beach and pool and just hanging around our hood. In fact whilst out with Coco the other day, on our daily excursion to the park, we happened upon a box of hard rubbish awaiting collection. Never one to pass up the chance to rummage through a box of free junk, we dove in and found these two little beauties. We spent a long time scrubbing, polishing and testing them out finally conceding that only one of them works and I use the word ‘works’ vaguely whilst looking over your shoulder and not quite meeting your eye. We will keep them though. I’m a huge fan of the mini version of something. So cute. Continue reading “Sew” »

…..I am going to take out the braids and perhaps re-visit this look I cultivated circa 1980’s. I think there will be enough frizz, post plaits, to gather up into two huge pom-pom pigtails. Whaddya think?!
Also thanks to a little write up on Design Files last week (thanks Lucy!) I was overwhelmed with sales and orders. The great news is that I am happy being busy sewing, as anyone self-employed likes to have work and I do so love to sew.
The flip side is that I already have plenty of orders due because of the trip away and school holidays, so I am behind.
This week is all about cutting and sewing, ironing, wrapping and packing. I always feel for my family in times like this as the lounge/dining area turns into a sweatshop. I’m lucky though no-one minds, in fact the kids love picking up birds and making them dance and putting lego men into the baskets of the hot air balloons that hang from various hooks in the ceiling.
I loooong for a studio or some small space of my own, but in the meantime I feel grateful at least for the patience of Andy and the children.

I was lucky enough to have a lovely write-up in the Herald Sun Home magazine on the weekend. I did the interview back in December and really had no idea what I rambled on about. Reading it on Saturday, I still didn’t really have an idea what I was rambling on about, so nothing new there. Something like ‘blah. blah, blah handkerchief, yada, yada, handkerchief etc’.
I was pleased with all the pics though. It made me stop and think about all the work that goes into making the things I make. It can be laborious and lonely and I often need to lie face down and ask the children to march across my back after a particularly long session behind the sewing machine, but I do love it with all my heart. Truly.
And if I’m being honest I did feel a little bit proud. It was nice to see some of my work displayed all pretty like. Thanks Herald Sun!

I have a new stockist….drumroll please….Lark is now stocking some of my hanky blankeys! This is exciting on many levels. 2 years ago I met Allison (Miss Lark herself) and I was more than a little chuffed and slightly star struck. I have admired Allison for such a long time. I’d read so many articles about her, her work and life and always felt very inspired after reading. I am instinctively drawn to stories about women who are creative in their work, whilst also being a mother.
I also totally dig her aesthetic, love her shop in Daylesford and after the first and subsequent meetings with her (usually at a market!) realised she is really lovely, encouraging and very generous with her industry information.
Anyway, enough of the fan girl behavior. I made some blankeys especially for Lark and they are in store now.
She also wrote some very kind words on the Lark newsletter (thanks Amanda for alerting me!). Squeal!!
