Other clever peeps

I am so inspired by the photographic work of Jim Naughten. His portraits are incredible, especially this series on the Herero tribe members of Namibia. Their story is a fascinating one and how wearing these European style patchwork dresses has become part of their tradition is so interesting. I am desperately hanging out for his new book, Hereroes, which will be released next year. In the meantime, I can’t stop looking at the proud faces, beautiful posture, stark landscape and restrained photography. The whole series can be found here.
And now to the ridiculous…. Continue reading “Sublime” »

I made some new balloons for my friend Amber’s shop (available here). She owns Down to the Woods. You may have seen her range of products oh, just about everywhere. Especially the Little Lamb felt range. Love, love LOVE all those colorful pom poms.
She’s just come back from a visit to Nepal where her products are made. You can read what she wrote about her travels on her blog. Sounds like a fantastic experience! Continue reading “Down to the Woods” »

A lot of emails turn up in my inbox. Funny advertising/endorsement type offers and things. Things that I would never take part in because, well, they’re not really me and I’m not so great at being passionate about things that I don’t believe in or can’t get my head around. But these books by amazing author and crafter, Kathreen Ricketson? Hells yeah! Continue reading “Kids Crafternoon” »

Treasuries

July 20, 2011

in Other clever peeps, etsy

To date, my work has been in 176 treasury’s and counting. What is a treasury, I hear you ask? It’s a collection of images/items selected from etsy. Anyone can create one, all you need to do is pick up to 16 images from any etsy shop you like and curate them under a theme, give them a title and ta-da a treasury is born. Each image is linked back to its shop and in a matter of seconds, you’ve discovered a new clever person doing and making clever things.
I feel very lucky to have been included in so many. Not only is it flattering (they like me, they really like me), it also has opened up a world of shopping. Because I am usually included with other items that have a similar aesthetic, an aesthetic that I like, I often find myself clicking my way around etsy, checking out new shops, finding clever people, putting their work onto my wishlist and then purchasing. Or not, if Andy’s reading this post. Ahem.
Anyway, I thought I’d share some of my favorites…

Coco’s been busy too. Not running but painting. (See here, for how it all began) I signed her up for an art class with the amazing, brilliant and so-very-lovely Dawn Tan. It was held last week at Harvest Textiles. If you don’t know/haven’t heard about this group of clever ladies then you need to find out pronto! And go visit the workroom too! The window at the moment is by Leila Sanderson who makes the most amazing teepees out of recycled sail cloth. So great.
Anyway, Dawn was so patient, kind and encouraging with Coco and what was meant to be an hour and 15 minutes turned into 2 hours. Coco was happy to stay on her own, so I had a chance to duck next door to Popcraft (also amazing) but I snuck back early and sat out the back to eavesdrop on the class.
Dawn: Okay now we can decorate with pom-poms…
Coco: Yay! I LOVE POM POMS!
Dawn: How about some stickers…
Coco: I LOVE STICKERS TOOO!!Isn’t the resemblance striking? And so proud of my clever girl writing her own name in the top corner. Well done Ooco. Dawn also took some photos of the morning and put them on her blog here.
Find out about all of Dawn Tan’s beautiful work here.
And I can’t wait for her pop-up shop and solo exhibition! Details here.

Handmade

July 13, 2011

I know my birthday was so last June, but I just had to share the present I received in the mail the other day, from my dear friend Peta who lives in Brisbane.
What you need to know about her is that she is a buzzy, bubbling, dynamo of a girl, with 2 children under 3. [...]

Wishes and words. Lots of them.

June 13, 2011

Things are a little crazy right now. Working from home, 3 days a week, right in the middle of our living/dining area means sometimes I find a ballerina on my work table. Hmmmm… I love the idea of being here, being able to be flexible with the kids, being able to get a few jobs [...]

Oh and one other thing…

I have a new stockist….drumroll please….Lark is now stocking some of my hanky blankeys! This is exciting on many levels. 2 years ago I met Allison (Miss Lark herself) and I was more than a little chuffed and slightly star struck. I have admired Allison for such a long time. I’d read so many articles [...]

Dawn Tan and Harvest Textiles

May 6, 2011

I bought this amazing box of illustrated recipe cards the other day. It’s a collaboration between the super clever Dawn Tan and those excellent ladies at Harvest Textile. One day when I have the kitchen of my dreams or at least less of a kitchen of my nightmares (read current kitchen) I thought I’d frame [...]
