Yep. It’s getting a lot of press and rightly so. It’s so gorgeous, such a lovely space filled to the brim with great things. Including Lucy’s sweet and smiling staff all polkadot-ty and cute.
Having work included in the Open House has been cool. Although entering the kids space was a little nerve wracking as I didn’t quite know what to expect. Thankfully I saw a whole bunch of pretty hanging from the ceiling. Phew.
Sometimes I see the things I make and all I can think is ‘work’. This time was different though. I felt happy and relieved that it all seemed to be working well and people seemed to like it. Although being in a room that included Penelope Durston’s vintage blanket quilts and Castle’s fluro spot bedding could only mean good things.
Well worth a visit….

I’ve been bed-ridden the past couple of days with a nasty virus. Feeling more than a little end-of-year burnt out. But enough of that. I did have a fun Sunday hanging out with Otto and my (Melbourne, not Sydney) sister, doing some Christmas shopping at Markit. It was crazy busy but with so many awesome designers/makers there I managed to do some serious purchasing. Feels so good shopping local at Christmas dontcha think? So I’m still here, finally emerging from a tornado of orders and end of year ballet concerts and under 10’s soccer and the school fete and more kiddy birthday party’s and more orders and on and on until it hit me at 1.30am the other morning. This sh*t is crazy!
I often feel so conflicted as I love making things but I also love being the one who is mostly in charge of the day to day life of the children and household. How can I balance the two? Until a friend of mine asked me how I actually did balance the two because apparently she see’s me doing it all the time without too much fuss. I was gobsmacked. ‘Have you seen my house lately?” ” Have you looked at the state of my eyebrows and nails?” “Did you not see Coco kick the pile of ever-growing fabric in the corner of our lounge room in disgust? (I pushed everyone a little too far this past month)’ She replied yes to all of this but said I still seemed in pretty high spirits. Must of been the seventh coffee and family size block of chocolate aiding the ’spirits’.
But now with a clear head and after a weekend spent hanging out with family and friends, a couple of lovely early nights and a house so clean and tidy I want to take a photo of it, it got me thinking though, how do I get through these especially busy times? Then I thought maybe some of my tricks and tips* could be helpful to others, so here goes…. Continue reading “Up for air” »

…..I am going to take out the braids and perhaps re-visit this look I cultivated circa 1980’s. I think there will be enough frizz, post plaits, to gather up into two huge pom-pom pigtails. Whaddya think?!
Also thanks to a little write up on Design Files last week (thanks Lucy!) I was overwhelmed with sales and orders. The great news is that I am happy being busy sewing, as anyone self-employed likes to have work and I do so love to sew.
The flip side is that I already have plenty of orders due because of the trip away and school holidays, so I am behind.
This week is all about cutting and sewing, ironing, wrapping and packing. I always feel for my family in times like this as the lounge/dining area turns into a sweatshop. I’m lucky though no-one minds, in fact the kids love picking up birds and making them dance and putting lego men into the baskets of the hot air balloons that hang from various hooks in the ceiling.
I loooong for a studio or some small space of my own, but in the meantime I feel grateful at least for the patience of Andy and the children.
